Tupac Shakur was an American rapper and actor known by his stage name 2Pac. He was born Lesane Parish Crooks on June 16, 1971 in East Harlem, New York. His parents Afeni Shakur and Billy Garland were members of the Black Panther Party. Shakur was raised by his mother. The family moved to Maryland in 1986 where he attended Baltimore School for the Arts. There he took acting, dance and ballet classes. The family moved to California in 1988 and Shakur joined the hip-hop group, Digital Underground, shortly after.
CAREER
The name 2Pac was first used when Shakur made his debut as a solo artist back in 1991. He released the album, 2Pacalypse Now, which sold over a million copies. His second album, Strictly 4 My N.I.G.G.A.Z., was released in 1993 and featured the singles “Keep Ya Head Up” and “I Get Around”. His double disc albums ‘All Eyez on Me’ and ‘Greatest Hits’ are among the top selling albums in the US. His 1995 single “Dear Mama” was added to the National Recording Registry in 2010. Shakur has sold over 75 million records worldwide throughout his music career.
As and actor, Shakur made his debut in the 1991 film, Nothing but Trouble. He followed up with a starring role in the 1993 crime drama film, Juice, alongside Omar Epps and Samuel L. Jackson. Other notable films include Poetic Justice, Above the Rim, Gridlock’d, and Gang Related. Shakur’s biopic, All Eyez on Me, was released in June 2017. He was portrayed by actor Demetrius Shipp Jr.

Tupac Shakur died on September 13, 1996 at the age of 25. He was fatally shot in a drive-by shooting on September 7, 1996 in Las Vegas, Nevada. He died six days later from his injuries. His death came six months before rival East coast rapper, The Notorious B.I.G, was shot and killed.
